Introduction:
Upon joining Nextiva, I identified opportunities to make interfaces more visually appealing by adding animated elements. For this project, I proposed adding animated behavior to the footer component.
Problem:
-
I observed that the lack of micro-interactions and animations made the interfaces appear less engaging compared to other similar products, such as the chat feature in NextivaONE.
My role:
-
I was responsible for designing micro-interactions and animations, as well as conducting comparative analysis.
-
By incorporating micro-interactions and animations into the interface, I hoped to expand this practice to other areas of the product.
Finding solutions:
-
After conducting a comparative analysis, I discovered interesting examples of how other apps, such as Telegram, display the process of recording voice and the supporting micro-interactions.
-
I created a test prototype with similar behavior for our app and shared it with the team.
-
The design team provided very positive feedback, and the designs and prototypes were retained for future iterations.
Outcomes/Success stats:
-
This project demonstrated to the team that incorporating micro-interactions and animations can make our product more visually appealing and engaging.
Learnings:
-
I observed that some senior stakeholders are hesitant to incorporate more micro-interactions and animations into the product, despite understanding the potential benefits. While they focus on their own projects, I have not seen much progress in this regard.
-
Additionally, not all engineers are capable of handling the implementation of more advanced interface behaviors. This may be a contributing factor to the deprioritization of these patterns.
